This song is destined for a (as yet untitled and recorded but not mixed) album of songs about the English Civil War. The story and the first songs recorded for that album was in 2011, it is a big album and tracks list grows bigger each year.
The Rain on the Rye is about the starvation experienced during that period of the war, and also the people driven to madness by the effects of the ergot in the bread.
This particular instrumental version of the song is more sonic than the album itself and so was discarded from that album, and has found a much more sympathetic home on this compilation.
We hope to finish mixing the English Civil War inspired album sometime in 2021, but don't hold us to that.
